Dear Etrain,
You were seven months old the first time we took you to Las Gaviotas. The house we rented was newly renovated and had a jacuzzi on the deck. We loved that jacuzzi because it wasn't heated so it was like we had our own swimming pool for you. Dada could go surf, and you and I could chill in the jacuzzi to keep cool while watching Dada in the water. We stayed at Las Gaviotas for four days and you were a trooper the whole time. That was your first international vacation!
We had such a great time at Las Gaviotas, Dada and I decided to make it our Christmas gift for the family. The day after Christmas we packed up the car and drove down. Dada's friends Viet and Jeff came with us and stayed for the first two days.
The first day was mostly driving, which you didn't love it once you woke up in the car. That night the adults had some fun and took silly photos after you went to bed. The next day, Dada and his friends surfed while you and I played at the house. The weather was chilly so no pool time for us. That night we went into the town down the road, Puerto Nuevo, and had a tasty dinner. While there the mariachis sang us a song. You couldn't take your eyes off of them. You also really loved the rice and beans we gave you.
On the third day Dada's friends had left and there was no surf, so we decided to go exploring. We drove to Rosarito and walked around town for a little bit. We also walked the beach, and I, of course, took a ton of photos. Later that night we walked the tide pools at Las Gaviotas and practiced your walking. You're not ready yet, and that's just fine with us. Once you're up and moving, we'll be chasing you I'm sure.
The last day was just for packing up and driving back home. You lost your mind a bit while at the US/Mexico border for two hours, but then again so did we. Once we were moving again after crossing over, you were back off to la la land and happy as can be.
I have to be honest. Traveling with you isn't easy. We don't have all the comforts of home, and there's hazards we have to constantly watch out for. You had a few bumps along the way, but then again you get them at home plenty too. We all made it home safe and have some great memories to share with you when you're older. Traveling may be tough, but also very worth it. Dada and I plan on dragging you around with us all over the world. We look forward to experiencing it all with you.
Love,
Mama
