Party Time! Excellent!

Dear Etrain,

Your birthday fell on a Monday this year, so we decided to have your first birthday party today. Let's just say you are a very loved little boy.

The day started early. Your Uncle Elliott, Auntie Michelle, and cousins Levi and Landon stopped by around 9 am to see you and wish you a Happy Birthday. Your Grandma and Grandpa North wanted to hang with all of their grandchildren together so they come over too. You played in your playroom with your cousins and we took a bunch of silly photos. You had such a great time, you didn't want to take your usual 10:30 am nap.

We finally convinced you to fall asleep somewhere around noon, which was cutting it close because your party started at one. Or so I thought. Apparently the font I used on the invitation I made for your party made the 1 pm look like a 4 pm, so we had some guests show up later than planned. But all was okay because you got to sleep in a bit more in prep for some partying, and we got to celebrate the whole day.
These aren't Christmas gifts!

Lots of our
friends and neighbors stopped by, and of course all your grandparents were here. Even Grammy! She flew in from up north just to see you. Boy you lucked out. We told people they didn't need to bring you gifts, but it seems like everyone did. We haven't opened them all up yet, but look at this pile. Like I said - you're a very loved little dude.

When it was time to sing you Happy Birthday and give you your birthday cake, we all gathered around you in your highchair in the backyard. I think it was a little overwhelming for you because you were very shy and eventually cried. We tried to give you some cake, but you weren't very interested in it. I guess we should be happy that you're not that into sweets (yet). Oh, by the way, you share a birthday with Dada's friend Viet. He owns a catering business and was kind enough to cater your party. We had to make sure he had a birthday treat too, so we gave him a cupcake with a bunch of candles in it. He's the guy next to you during your birthday song - just in case you were wondering.

Today was a great day with lots of great memories. I'm sorry you won't remember it, but hey, that's what this blog is for.

Happy Birthday (a day early) my sweet little one.

Love,
Mama

P.S. This happened this morning too. Ha!
