4 Years, 3 Months

Dear Etrain,

You may have noticed we've skipped a few months on this blog. These days you are much more on the move so I have less time to put this together, and you are just harder to get a photo of. When you were a baby you would just lay there for me, then you got older, but still didn't move as fast as you do now. And if I'm being totally honest, there just aren't as many unique or cute photo moments. We do a lot of the same thing each day, and it just doesn't always warrant a photo each time. That said, I still love capturing fun moments of your childhood and looking back at this blog. I hope one day you feel the same.

So, a lot has happened since your 4th birthday. Grammy came to visit for Christmas and you two were maybe the most engaged that you've ever been. You are much more vocal now, so you'll ask her for more - time on her ipad, eating dinner together, playing board games, having her read to you before bed, etc. It's really cute to watch you two together.

You got a new remote control car for your birthday, and we've played with it pretty much everyday. It's probably you most favorite thing to do right now.

Santa brought you a new bike for Christmas. Unfortunately it was too small, so dad had to talk to some Santa's helpers to get a bigger one for you. It all worked out and the bigger one was perfect. You have loved it and are riding it all the time. Your poor scooter just sits in our garage now.

You spent the day with Nana and Papa one Sunday, so dad and I went on a hike then out to lunch. It's funny how you are so similar to your dad when I try to take pictures of you guys.

We spent New Year's Eve with our neighbors and it was so much fun. There was food, drinks, games, fun music and dancing, and dad brought sparklers. Dad and you hung in strong for most of the night, but went home before the countdown.

The rest of the month we were back to our usual stuff. Tuesdays have pretty much become a standing play date day with your buddy Isaiah. Thursdays we still go to swim class, and after school and nap we fill in playing with your RC car, riding your bike, and general play around the house.

The neighbors had a butterfly coming out if it's cocoon in their backyard, and they invited us over so you could see it. You're not a total insect kid, so I'm not sure if you realized or cared how cool it was to see it.  Maybe when you're a bit older. Either way, it was nice of our neighbors to think of you.

End of January going into February, there was a lot of the same stuff going on. Plenty of bike riding and tons of remote control car driving. Not sure if you can tell, but the car you got for your birthday cracked, so Dad sent it back and got you another one. We seriously do this every day. And when Dad is home you two go to the park and build jumps. Oh, then we got you a RC truck and sent back the car. The car couldn't handle the jumping so we had to upgrade. Lucky kid.

Son, I must tell you I am very impressed with your skill with this thing. I thought it would be fairly easy...until I tried it. For right and left you turn a knob, and I had that down pretty well as the car drove away from me, but once I had it coming back, I was so confused. I could barely get it over the jumps. I usually just missed them. Controlling one of those cars is hard! Our adult neighbor has an adult remote control car and he let you drive it. At first I was really nervous because I didn't want you to crash and destroy his very expensive and extremely fast adult toy, but you did great! You didn't take it too fast and didn't crash it into anything. Nice job!

We still have (almost) weekly play dates with Isaiah. Now we have to pick parks that have good paths for riding bikes because the bikes come every time.

You had fun at Isaiah's birthday party at the park. Pizza, treats, pinata and your favorite buddies was great. I will say, you've had some trouble with one of the boys...or maybe I've had trouble with him. This goes back to the playground time at school too. This boy is just way more rough than you like to play...and he is good buddies with Isaiah. So when that boy is around Isaiah plays with him, and you tend to be left out...although I think you choose to stay away. I've seen that boy be unkind, but you aren't overly sweet either.

This party was interesting because you played with the group some, but you also were by yourself for a good portion. When I asked you if you had fun you said yes, but also mentioned that boy not being nice to you. My mama heart just wants to protect you from bullies or feeling left out, but sometimes I wonder if you're fine and it's just me who is assuming you're not. I'll keep an eye on you, but so far you seem fine and I'm glad you have fun friends.

Dad planned a pretty fun birthday weekend for all of us. You got to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's house for the first time ever, and were spoiled the whole time, as you should be. Dad and I drove to Palm Springs and stayed the night out there. We had a great time eating, drinking, laughing, and dancing the night away. You couldn't stop talking about how you and Grandpa built some awesome ramps for your RC car. It was really nice to have some alone time with Dad, and I'm glad you had some bonding time with your grandparents.

For Halloween it was almost torture to get you to put on a costume. Any costume. After many, many tears and screaming you did it, and then said it was fun. But if I asked you if you wanted to put it on again you said no. Until one day. One day you just asked me if you could put on your Batman costume. Then the next day you wanted it on again. Then you wanted to wear it to the grocery store. And the mall. And to your play dates with Isaiah. Then you wanted to take it to school so you could show it and wear it for share day.

Needless to say you apparently like wearing costumes now...or at least Batman. Although a dinosaur dress up thing came in one of your monthly activity boxes and you wanted to put that on right away too. You never put it on again, but it was cute that day.

Yup, you even wore your Batman costume to Monster Jam. We bought tickets with Isaiah's family so we could all sit together. You kids enjoyed our burger lunch before maybe more than the show itself. I will admit, the end of the show is the best part, so it was a little slow to start. Lots of trucks were breaking down too, which slowed things. But your other buddy, Noah and family got tickets near our section so we met up with them in between events.

I think I took this sleeping photo below because of snakey. Yes, snaky. You have doggy, bunny, and now snaky (that pink thing under your arm). I can't say you've ever been overly excited or interested in snakes or reptiles, but for some reason you really love snaky. Anyway, he was another craft in one of your monthly activity boxes and he's been in your bed since.

You also really love digging.

Dada and I went on a walk one morning when you were at Nana and Papa's house, and I took this photo from the top of the hill. It's sort of cool that if you were to zoom in you could see our house and Nana and Papa's house in the same shot.

Maybe the cutest swimmer ever.
You are the coolest little dude. You can be serious and sometimes dramatic like me, yet you are very goofy and silly like your dad. I think that's a good mix. I love watching you grow, learn, and experience new things. We have some fun vacations lined up, so that will be exciting. Until next time, I love you my sweet boy.

Love,
Mama
