4 Months Old

Dear Etrain,

Well, I'm back at it. No promises I'll keep this regular, but I do want to make sure I eventually get up all your baby months onto this blog. You were just too cute to not post about. The sad thing about doing this so late, is that I don't remember all the details now. I'll just share what I can.

In your 2 month and 3 month old posts, I mention about you being a baby blob. Still the case. There was some more movement though. As you'll see from photos below, you got the hang of tummy time. You even roll yourself over in one of the videos. But other than that it's still eating, sleeping, and potty. Oh and the crying. I remember the first few months the crying was rough. I think it had something to do with your belly, but nothing I tried really seemed to help...except hanging you by your armpits and bouncing you. Now, you knew when we tried to rest our elbows on our knees. If we did that you'd start up with the tears again, but as long as our arms were our straight and our shoulders were burning, you were happy. Anything for you baby boy. I wouldn't say you were colicky, but you definitely cried a bunch.

You were also such a happy baby. You made the sweetest noises when you were "talking" and you had (and still do) the best smile. Actually, all the faces you made for the camera were pretty amazing.

My friend Brandi works for a company called Google. When you're old enough to read this you'll know what Google is...actually, you already know what Google is. I digress. Anyway, Brandi sent you some goodies from her office, so I dressed you up and had a photo shoot so she could see you in the Google gear. There were these super cute socks too, I just didn't include a photo.

The photo in the middle is one of the only photos I could post that didn't show your private parts, but let me tell you, I have a bunch of bath photos and videos of you because it was one of my favorite times with you. In fact, I just sent the video of this night to Dada the other day. You sit there with super wide eyes and just kick that water all over the place. It's sort of funny and really adorable to watch.

This photo made it to social media. My caption said something like "how is this comfortable?". But back then you'd sleep anywhere. It might take a bit of rocking to get you there, but after a good meal, you were out...and fell asleep in the strangest positions sometimes. And since it'd take you a bit to fall asleep, I didn't want to move and wake you up. So I'd just be stuck there. If I wasn't watching TV I was probably taking photos of you...obviously.

Still obsessed with those little hands.

You went through a tongue phase. Always sticking it out. I mean, little kids stick our their tongue. That's expected. But there's something pretty adorable about a little baby sticking out his tongue.

There I go trying to get a photo of you and Burger together again. My babies. By the way, we don't have you in a straight jacket. Before you were born, Dada and I went to class that was basically like a baby 101. How to feed, burp, hold, change, etc a baby. They also showed us this super old, yet amazing video called the Happiest Baby on the Block...or something like that. It taught about techniques using the 5 S's to calm a crying baby. The first S standing for swaddling. I mentioned above, you were a crier. Well Dada and I LOVED the 5 S's. They actually really helped once our shoulders got tired of bouncing you. Anyway, you loved being swaddled. They say it mimics the feeling of the baby (you) being in the mama's (me) belly. You loved to sleep while being swaddled, so I can only assume the photo below is either before or after a nap.

Dada and I were at a store called Buy Buy Baby, where you can get all the baby gear you need. I couldn't tell you what we bought that day, but I remember Dada was there to make me laugh. (I love how he does that.) He saw this photo and told me that you were much cuter than the baby in the photo (sorry, to the baby in the photo, but I agree), then he held you up for comparison. Ethan wins!

Oh man, so I mentioned you cried a lot. We loved you. We do and always will love you. But when there's lots of crying sometimes you get a little desensitized to it. If something was really wrong or you seemed distressed in some way, we would of course cuddle you and try to fix the problem. But like I said, you cried a lot. Anyway, if you watch this video, out of context it may look like Dada was being mean to you or making fun of you. Well, he sort of was making fun of you, but not because he didn't care. You had eaten and apparently didn't want the rest of your bottle, and you seemed a bit cranky. You could have been tired, or who knows why you were upset. Maybe you didn't like your dad's singing. Either way, being a parent is tough, especially to a 3 month old. You can't ask what's wrong, you just have to guess. I don't remember what we did after this video, but I'm sure you got lots of hugs and kisses.

Apparently this day I went photo crazy and took a million pictures of you. But look at that sweet little face...how could I not?! You had the best facial expressions.

When we first started doing tummy time, you HATED it. Cried every time. Then again you were only a month old (or younger?). Look at how you dominated tummy time now.

The below photos aren't the best quality, but probably some of my favorites of you and Dada. You just loved (and still do) your Dada. He is definitely the more fun and silly one of the two of us. The smile you get on your face when looking at Dada is just the sweetest thing. I got some similar shots of you smiling at him last month, but these are better. Just look at the second and third photos down. Your sweet little face is just so happy chatting it up with him. I wish I had video too.

This past month also included Easter, so we of course had to take you to see the Easter bunny. After a successful trip, Grandma and Grandpa came over to celebrate Easter with us...and of course so they could see you. For more on you first Easter experience, check this out

Honestly, I can't tell you what else happened this month, but the rest of these photos and videos are of you sleeping, eating, playing, and being your usual adorable self.

Learning to hold your own bottle?

Trying to get some photos of you and me together.

You loved bouncing in this thing. At this point I don't think you could reach much on it, but you liked bouncing and looking at it.
Pretty sure this hat was a hand-me-down and didn't really have a chance to use it, but it sure made for the most wonderful photos.
I loved how your eyes would get super big while you were kicking the water in the bath.

When you were a small baby, you a bunch of doctors appointments. Made sense, since they wanted to check how well you were growing and make sure everything was good...and to give you shots (sorry, son. They aren't fun, but they are important). Here's how big you were at your 4 month check up:
Weight: 14 lbs, 15 oz. - 36 %ile
Height: 25.75 in. - 76%ile
Head Circumference: 16.5 in. - 59%ile

Not gonna lie, Dada and I were pretty excited to hear you were in the 76th percentile for height. We are both not that tall, so even though we know you will probably not be super tall, we have hope that you might pass us up. Yes, we know that it doesn't mean much for how tall you'll be as an adult, but we can have hopeful thoughts, right?!

Could you be any cuter in these photos in the chair. It's crazy to see how small you are in that chair compared to now at three and a half. Look at those cheeks and that smile!!!!

And I still do love you more and more each day, my sweet little roly poly.

Love,
Mama

P.S. Burger went to kitty heaven last year, so I'm a tad sentimental now when I see old photos of her. This one came up while I was looking back at photos of you for this post. I took the photo because she looked silly with her tongue sticking out. Kinda like a cute little baby I know.
