2 Years, 10 Months

Dear Etrain,

My poor boy. You were basically sick all month long. You only had a cold, but it just wouldn't go away. It probably didn't help that we went on a couple vacations and had busy weekends, but you didn't seem to mind. Even when you're sick, you're still the coolest, sweetest, most fun, little dude.

Except for maybe when we went to breakfast by the beach one weekend and I tried to take pictures afterward. You were not into it. At. All.

Always a good time at the park. These photos are actually at what you call the "new park". We have to drive there, but it's got an awesome jungle gym thing to climb on, which has an "elevator" that you like to go down over, and over, and over. You made friends with a little girl name Joey. She likes playing with your cars, so I think that's why you like her. :)

Then it was time for VACATION! Dada and I were soooo excited for this trip. It had felt like forever since we had been on a trip together as a family. We went to our favorite spot, Las Gaviotas. This was your 4th time there, but probably the first time you really enjoyed all it has to offer. The first time you visited, you were only 7 months old, then we took you again just after your first birthday. The last time we went to Las Gaviotas was right after we moved out of our old house (and into the apartment, yuck), when you were 19 months old. Needless to say, it had been a while and we missed this place.

You did great on the drive down. No complaining, took a little nap, and enjoyed the adventure. We got there late afternoon/early evening and headed straight for the beach, of course. We must have been there for hours. You just kept digging and digging. Eventually you discovered how fun it was to throw rocks. Not that you noticed, the sunset was beautiful too.

You had been asking for weeks when we were going to Mexico. You even told your teachers you were going before I had a chance to mention you'd be missing class. You were so excited. So when I went to put you to bed that night, I was surprised when you asked me if we were staying and said that you didn't want to sleep there. I didn't realize how long it had been since we had slept somewhere unfamiliar to you, and that you are now at an age where you notice and want the familiar. In the past, you didn't blink an eye on staying somewhere new. (I guess that means we need to go on more vacations!) After some cuddles, and reading some of your favorite books before bed you fell fast asleep and didn't have a problem the rest of the vacation.

The next day we were back at the beach, of course. There was more digging, running, splashing and general silliness.

Night two was pizza night. After a walk (or run) around the property that evening, we headed to our favorite pizza spot down the road.

The third day, Dada attempted to surf. There hadn't really been any waves, but he wanted to at least get in the water. He caught a couple and I tried to take some photos and video. I can only get so much from the camera on my phone, so the quality isn't great.

Later that day we headed to Rosarito and, you guessed it, we went to the beach. We figured we'd switch up the scenery and go on a little adventure. After lots of running at the sand, we walked to a taco spot that got good reviews. The line was long, but the tacos were pretty yummy.

We had a great vacation and I can't wait for our next visit to Las G.

The following weekend happened to be the Huntington Beach Air Show and it was so cool. I've never been to an air show, but this was the perfect way for us to do it, in my opinion. We parked at Dada's friend's house...Uncle Viet lives a block away from the beach. After a quick lunch, we walked to the beach, found a spot near the water and had the best time. Most of the bigger tricks happened down by the pier, but with your sensitive ears (you only let the ear plugs last for a little while) it was good to be farther away. But the big jets flew over us plenty and it was so amazing to watch. Meanwhile, you had a great time just rolling around (literally) in the sand.

The weekend after that we headed to New Mexico to visit my side of the family. We stayed with my Auntie Onila and Uncle Mario, and visited all the other aunts and uncles as well. We had such a wonderful time and it was so nice to see everyone...and for everyone to see you. They hadn't seen you since you were a baby. To see more about our New Mexico trip, visit this post

Then we were back to normal life at home, no more vacations planned, and you still had a cold. It was pretty bad too after our New Mexico trip. My poor boy didn't rest much.

There's no story behind this photo other than you were riding Dada's bike with him (you asked him to do it), and this was the photo I captured. You're face is hilarious. Get it, kid.

So I should explain the photos below. You are graduating to big boy undies! The weekend after New Mexico, we planned to start potty training you. We read this book about potty training in 3 days, so we basically stayed locked in the house for 3 days. Here you are, day one and you are in your undies. I'll tell you how it went in the post next month.

Once again, you were such a trooper. We dragged you all over to new places, all while sick, and you did great. You also changed to pre-school three days a week, so you have a new kids in your preschool classes, a new My Gym class (a level up) and you moved up a level in swim (you can float!). I'm so proud of you, son. You're such a big boy!

I love you sweet boy.

Love,
Mama

Side Note: I like to keep this blog fairly happy, but I feel like this is important enough to include. Sadly, on the last day of our trip to New Mexico my kitty, Burger, went to kitty heaven. She was 18 years old, had gotten sick with kidney failure, and I knew it was going to be her time soon. I think you liked Burger although you didn't interact with her much. You sure did try, but she would either walk away or I'd have to make you leave her alone, because you were a bit rough. You weren't trying to be mean to her, but you wanted to play with her and she wasn't into it. Plus, she was much smaller than you and weak in her old age. In the last few months she mostly slept in the guest bedroom so she was out of sight most of the time. I suppose that was best for everyone because she could rest and not seeing her much in the last few months made, I think, her not being here anymore easier for you. You may never remember Burger, but she was a sweet kitty and I loved her very much.

The photos below are from one month before you were born, then from when you were 2 months old, and from this past April (2 years old).
