2 Months Old

Dear Etrain,

Oh my, you were a cute baby. I mean, you're still adorable, but just look through these photos. I have mom brain now so my memory isn't that great, but I still want to try to recap the things that come to mind when I see these pictures of you. Here's what I remember of the month leading up to you turning two months old...

We spent a lot of time downstairs on the couch, mostly because our days mostly consisted of you sleeping, eating, needing diaper changes, and then that over and over again. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I breastfed you...mostly. I had a really hard time with it. I was really sore and I didn't produce a ton of breast milk, so you got both breast milk and formula. Although breastfeeding was hard and sometimes painful, there was also something so amazing and awesome about being able to nourish my sweet baby boy from my body. Plus, it meant I got to cuddle with you, which we all know is my favorite thing to do. So, we'd hang out on the couch. You'd nurse, I'd burp you, then you might get some formula too depending on how hungry you were. After that you'd take a snooze, many times while laying on me...hence all the closeup photos of you sleeping on me or right next to me.

The towel in the background also reminds me of the little changing station we made on the couch. You were a very particular little one and didn't like having a dirty diaper. You wore the Pampers brand at the time because they had an awesome strip that would change color when you were wet. You would sometimes cry your eyes out in hysterics if there was just the tiniest little change in color on that strip, so we changed your diaper a lot. Since your changing table was upstairs is was easier for us to have another station downstairs on the couch. That spot also often ended up being a great place to snap some photos, especially since you'd be all smiles once dry.

Let's be clear. I love, love, love you and enjoyed (and still do) my time with you more than you'll ever know. BUT, it could also get a tad boring at times. A 1-2 month baby just isn't always that entertaining. You'd make the sweetest sounds and cutest faces, but other than that you were just a little baby blob. So, I had to find things to entertain myself throughout the day, and one of those things was the camera on my phone. I really regret not taking videos of you the first two months, but I sure did take a ton of photos. I'd even get a little creative...like the one below were I put my hair over your forehead and make you look like you were wearing a toupee. I sent that photo to your dad while he was at work and he got a huge kick out of it. How cute are you?!!! That smile.

By the way, if I haven't mentioned it before, the majority of the clothes from your first year were all hand-me-downs, or gifts. There were some not-so-cute outfits, and then some that were adorable. I thought the onesie with the tie and pocket protector was hilarious. I don't remember, but we may have even been going to visit Dada at work that day, which is why I dressed you in business casual attire.

You were just so tiny and perfect, I wanted to capture a photo of those tiny hands and feet so I'd be able to remember how lovable they were.

The first full month of your life Dada was able to stay home with us. We lucked out that you were born around Christmas and New Years, and Dada's work was closed for 2 full weeks for those holidays. Add that to the two weeks of paternity leave he took, and we got a whole month! Since I knew I'd have your dad's help for the first month, I asked Grammy to save her visit with you until he went back to work. She couldn't wait to meet her grandson and stayed for about a month as well. Score! We attempted a mini photo shoot, which ended up becoming sort of a tradition each time she'd visit.

Auntie Ansley came over to see see you as well and she brought her good camera. Either she or her parents had gotten you this onesie so we had to make sure you could show it off when she arrived. She took these cute photos of you...which was also a bit of a tradition.

The onesie also happened to be perfect for Superbowl Sunday. You and Dada watched it together.
This is as close to video as I can get. Google Photos (where I store all my pictures of you) knows where I take a million photos and puts them together in little animations. Sweet boy. Look at those arms and legs move.

Nana and Papa came to see you a lot, but I wasn't very good at pulling out the camera then. I managed to get this one of you and Papa. Oh, and you are Mommy's Favorite for sure (don't tell dad).

People were always asking who I thought you looked like, your dad or me. My answer was always (and still is) the same...I don't know. To me you just looked like an adorable baby. Neither your dad or I have really outstanding features like a big/small eyes, nose or mouth, skinny or chubby face, etc. so it was really hard to pick something that truly looked like me or was absolutely your dad. And I also got mixed opinions from other people. Some said you definitely look like your dad, and others thought you for sure looked like me. So who knows, son. You have your dad's eye color and my ears. Other than that, you must just be a perfect blend of both your parents. I had pulled some baby photos to try to do some comparison. What do you think? Dad is on the left of you, I'm on the right.

Before you came along, Burger was my baby. That cat got more attention than any other animal I've had. Of course, I had to get photos of my two babies together. It was always a challenging feat since you were very squirmy and cats never do what you ask them to. I'm happy I was able to get the both of you to look in my general direction.

The photo of you in the middle below is of your first time laying on this jungle activity mat someone gifted to us. It had lots of things dangling down to play with, and it had lights and music (or fun jungle noises, which was a nice break for mom after hearing the music over and over). This eventually became one of the best toys ever and we used it all the time, but to start you just laid there. You couldn't reach any of the dangling toys, and honestly, I don't think you even tried to (like I said, baby blob). But you were mesmerized by the lights and music. It was so cute to see your eyes light up with excitement.

By the way, the Lock Up Your Daughters shirt couldn't be more true. Those girls better watch out, because my handsome boy may break some hearts one day (although, when you're old enough for that, I hope you've grown up to be a caring, thoughtful young man. Let them down kindly, son.).

The shot below is you at your two month check-up at the doctors. You were:
Weight: 12 lbs, 9.5 oz. - 58 %ile
Height: 23.25 in. - 62%ile
Head Circumference: 15.5 in. - 58%ile
You got quite a few shots that day, and you handled it like a stud. I'm not sure that you even cried this time; just a bit tired after. I want to pinch those sweet, little, chubby baby legs.

Each month I'd post a new video on social media showing photos that I'd taken of you that month. According to my post, you slept 6 hours straight that night. Nice work baby boy. I'm sure I was a very happy mama.

Love you always, sweetpea.
Mama
