1 Month Old

Dear Etrain,

I started this blog late and I missed a bunch of your first months, which makes me sad. I get notifications on my phone all the time showing me photos of "this day a year ago" or two years ago and so on. So I get reminded often of all the pictures I took of you when you were a little baby. I have to admit I don't remember all the tiny details, but seeing these photos makes me smile.

My baby boy at one day old. We were still in the hospital when we took this photo.
I can tell you this first month was tough. Newborns have their own sleep schedule and wake up at all hours of the night. They also need to eat throughout the night. We actually hired someone to come over at night to help us take care of you. Her name was Amanda, and she was so sweet with you. She'd come over at 10 pm so Dada and I could go to sleep, then she'd wake me up at 6 am. The first couple nights I talked her ear off because I had so many questions and she had tons of experience with newborns. It was really expensive to have her come over so after the first week we only had her come over a few times a week for the rest of the month. Side note: this doesn't mean we didn't love you or want to spend time with you. In fact, Dada had a whole month off, and the both of us were with you every day, and every night that Amanda didn't come over. She just helped us get some rest and keep some sanity.

I do remember that Amanda called us one night and told us she couldn't come over because she was sick. Sure enough you came down with a cold. My poor baby was 9 days old and already caught his first cold. It was really mild though and was over quick enough. It was just sad seeing you sick at such a young age. :(

Only one week old. Lots of sleeping for my baby boy.
Two weeks old!

In this first photo below you were still two weeks old. This picture was actually taken on Christmas. It was a pretty mellow holiday. You were too young to take out and about, and Dada and I were pretty tired, so we just stayed in. Santa did stop by to say hi to you though. The other two photos below were on New Years Day when you were three weeks old. We gave you your first bath (the baths before were just sponge baths) in the tub. You loved the warm water. Then after the bath, you had a little photo shoot with Dada. Can we talk about how adorable you are?

Here you and Dada did some exercises. We were working on that grip and arm strength. Ha ha. Then after that we worked on some tummy time. You were not a fan of tummy time to start. You eventually stronger and liked tummy time. Oh, and we often kept socks on your hands because we didn't want you to scratch your face. Your little hands were so small and your nails were impossible to cut. I mean, we cut them, but I was so scared of hurting you.

Below you were four weeks old and such a cutie. Dada and I were going a little stir crazy, so we decided to get out of the house. We took a trip to Laguna Beach to get some sun...and we figured you would be fine since we wouldn't be in a small, confined space with other people who could give you germs. Last thing we wanted was for you to catch another cold. It was a nice afternoon and you can read more about it here.

Here you are just a day before turning two months old. Could this face be any sweeter?!
I have to admit, for most of my life I didn't want kids. It wasn't until I met your dad (and just got older and surrounded by more and more babies), that I started to like the idea. I was definitely nervous during my pregnancy and unsure about what being a mom would be like. Yes, the first month was hard, but there's no way I'd want to change anything. You (and your dad) are the best thing that ever happened to me and I've never loved a little human so much. I don't miss the sleepless nights, constant feedings and diaper changes, or the crying (oh the crying), but oh wow, I miss that sweet little face. I'd love to be able to go back in time and just cuddle with my sweet, tiny baby. You were and still are so precious.

I love you more than you'll ever know.
 Mama

P.S. Since I may never make you a hard copy baby book, I should probably include some stats for memory sake. At your two week old check up, you were....
Weight: 8.14 lbs - 59 percentile
Height: 21 in - 71 percentile
Head Circumference" 14 in - 41 percentile
