Happy Halloween...Finally!

Dear Etrain,

This year Halloween season was packed with activities and fun. It all started with a Daddy and Me pumpkin carving event at your school. You and Dada headed to your school early one morning for some doughnuts and pumpkin carving. Looks like you two had tons of fun. Your pumpkin turned out pretty awesome, although sadly he didn't make it to Halloween. He was carved a bit too early and sort of melted...you'll see photos below.

That weekend we took you to a pumpkin patch. The last two years we've taken you to Tanaka Farms. We love it there and would have taken you this year, but we heard they made it Sanrio themed and there were huge crowds making it impossible to get in and enjoy everything. It worked out fine because Pumpkin City had a bunch of fun rides and activities you loved. You were a tad cranky at times and almost refused to let me take any posed photos of you, but your dad made up for it. You can never say your dad isn't funny.

Too sunny, mom.

Not interested, mom.

Your school was going to have a "Noah's Ark" themed Halloween parade so I figured we'd find you an animal costume for Halloween. I asked you if you wanted to be a lion and you jumped all over it. You even told the class at My Gym you were going to be a lion for Halloween when they went around the circle and asked. At the store, I asked you again if you were sure you wanted to be a lion. I reminded you the costume would have to go over your head. You were in...until we asked you to try it on at home. I think we got it on you for about two minutes before you begged us to get it off. Oh great.

You were going to Nana and Papa's that Sunday, and Nana asked us to bring your costume. Turned out Nana bought a lion costume as well, so you two could wear them together. They got you to put it on for a little bit and took some pictures, but then you wanted it off again. The pictures were worth it though...so cute! Later that day they also took you to the Harvest Festival that was being held by the church where you go to preschool. They said you had a bunch of fun jumping in the bounce houses and petting the animals.

Then it was the day of the parade. You wouldn't put the costume on at home, but I hoped you'd get inspired once you saw your classmates all dressed up. Nope. You were one of the only kids not wearing a costume in the parade. I guess I have to applaud you for standing up for what you want. Check out the video too...you're such a rebel.

Since I had missed out on pumpkin carving at school, we bought another pumpkin to do as a family. I had also hoped to get in some pictures with you since I had basically been behind the camera so far this Halloween season (your Dada is way more fun in photos, but I still want you to see what I was like when you hopefully look back on this someday). Anyway, unfortunately Dada couldn't join us, so we carved while he was at work. I had a lot of fun with you and you really got into it. You wanted to do it all, but loved playing with the pumpkin guts the most. Like last year, you still didn't like touching with your hands, but you played with the spoon for a long while. You even put the guts back in the pumpkin so you could scoop them out again. Once we had our face carved I did my best to take some selfies with you. You're such a little ham.

As a little side note, in the photo below you can see we taped a piece of paper on our window. It says "we've been booed." One day I looked at our front doorstep and there was a little Halloween gift filled with candy and other fun goodies like stickers, bubbles, a pumpkin straw, etc. There was also an anonymous note explaining that we'd been booed and that we should pass it on to someone else in the neighborhood. I had never heard of something like this, but I loved it. We have the coolest neighborhood and I'm so happy you get to grow up here.

Note the melted pumpkin on the right. :/
Then Halloween night came and it was time for trick-or-treating! Dada came home from work early, we attempted (sort of unsuccessfully) to get you to eat an early dinner, then tried the costume again. As you can see you were not excited about wearing it (crying in costumes has been a theme for you), but we hoped you'd get over it once you saw all the fun in trick-or-treating. And it worked!

To start you wanted the costume off. I barely got some photos in, but nothing beats your cute little roar photo below. We headed down the street to see the other kids and you still weren't excited, but then we started knocking on doors...and running! Once you saw how fun it was, you loved it and didn't want to stop. Your dad got you to show everyone your lion roar and it was so adorable.

The photo on the right melts my heart.
By the end of the night you didn't want to go home, but it got really late and we still needed to get you to eat more dinner before bed. I'm so glad you came around and ended up having a blast. I was also nice to hang with our neighbors a little bit. I'd say this Halloween season was a success...hence the blog post title. I can't wait for next year. I have a feeling you'll be more into the costume thing. We'll see!

I love you my sweet little lion.

Love,
Mama
