Dear Etrain,
This post and this day was for you (how can I not make a whole blog post about your first Monster Jam?!). Anyone who knows you well, knows how much you LOVE monster trucks. You carry them everywhere. You play with them daily. They are your number one toy. We even got you a Grave Digger Monster Truck ornament for our Christmas tree this year. We don't let you watch many videos, but your treat is monster truck videos. After you go #2 on the potty you get to watch a few minutes of Monster Jam. When you get your hair cut, we let you watch monster truck videos because you'll stay still for the hair dresser...and it makes you look forward to getting your hair cut.
So, needless to say, we have been so excited to take you to Monster Jam. We waited until we knew it was coming to town...and when you were old enough to sit through it and enjoy it. Dada found tickets a month or two ago, but we never told you. In fact you didn't know until we were walking up to the stadium and you could hear the trucks driving inside. We wanted it to be a surprise.
You have been sick lately, so we were a tad worried we wouldn't be able to go. You are still stuffy, have a bad cough, and not eating much, but you were better than you were yesterday so we went for it. Got you up from nap early (you didn't know it was early), got you dressed and told you we were going on an adventure. You didn't ask where we were going, and didn't even ask why we were parking next to a huge stadium. Once you figured it out, you weren't as animated as I thought you might be (I blame the cold), but I think you were still pretty stoked.
Normally you're not a fan of headphones, but you loved having these. We tried to take them off at intermission and you asked for them to be put back on because the music was so loud. You sure did look cute in them.
Dada sure is good at selfies.
Me, not so much. I was trying to get the track in the background, but...
The people sitting behind us took pity on me.
We came late to the show. If you had been healthy, we might have tried to skip your nap and go to the whole show, but because you were sick, we had you nap for a little bit and went late. When we arrived they were doing the two wheel contest. It was cool, but a little underwhelming. Next was freestyle and that was what we were looking forward to...all the tricks. Grave Digger, one of your favorite trucks, went first and he was great.
Some of the trucks took it easy, lots got busted tires or axles or something, and some, like Overkill Evolution, went for it...and it was awesome! Pretty sure I got his ride on the video below.

I think this guy was named Dragon. ? |
These were the top scores for the freestyle round. So much fun to watch!
After the last truck did his freestyle run, everyone in the stadium started to leave. We got up and started going up the stairs, when Grave Digger surprised us with an encore drive. Yay!
I'd say it was a successful surprise adventure. You were upset to leave and a tad cranky...again I blame the cold, but you made sure to tell us you wanted to see the monster trucks again. We'll have to keep an eye out for next year. I'm glad you liked it baby boy. I'm sorry you were sick, but I hope all these photos and videos will cheer you up when your feeling bad. I'm sure you'll be asking to see this blog post and videos over and over again soon.
I love you sweet pea.
Love,
Mama
