Dear Etrain,
You are such a fun little dude. Your personality is just bursting with fun. You are so sweet and affectionate, but also silly and playful. Other than toddler tantrums, I wish you could stay this age forever (and I suppose your tantrums aren't really even that bad). I suppose I wish that of every stage of your life, but it just makes me sad to think that one day you won't want me to carry you, or hold you, or read you books and sing the ABC song before bed. The older you get, the more I really cherish these blog posts. I go back and read them all the time. I've even gone back and added in more videos lately. For some reason I recorded them, but then didn't post them on here, which is so strange because they are the best. Most times we/you aren't doing anything special at all, but it's a moment I otherwise wouldn't remember without it. That said, that's pretty much what this past month was like. Nothing really super exciting happened, but we had a lot of fun anyway.
The month started out with a sleepover at Nana and Papa's house. Dada and I got to go out on a date and you had fun with your grandparents. When I came to get you the next day, you were in silly mode playing with the stickers and Papa.
We left their house and headed straight for a birthday party. Your buddy Caden turned four and he had a super hero party. You didn't dress up (only a couple kids did), but you had a blast bouncing around in the super hero bounce house, which also had a slide and basketball hoop. I barely got you out for pizza, but when the cake came out you were more interested. Pretty sure you tried to help Caden blow out his candles.
This was a funny moment for me, and maybe a slightly awkward one for you. In the playroom at swim class they had a Barbie doll. You kept looking at her while trying to pretend to play with other toys. Eventually you told me you wanted to play with her, so I said go for it. You picked her up, held her in your hand for a minute or two, acting unsure of what to do. You then decided to lay down with her. At one point you even rolled over and gave her a kiss. Some other kids came in the playroom soon after and you got up and you wanted to sit on my lap with Barbie. You told me you wanted to take her home. You were acting so awkward the whole time. I couldn't tell if you were shy, felt like you were doing something bad, or just didn't know what to do. Either way it sort of made me giggle.
I don't really remember what was happening here. Perhaps I just wanted to capture the color combinations and stripes going on in dad's outfit. Regardless, you two sure are cute together.
You had a streak where you were doing much better at swim class. Much less crying and you were listening in to Coach Daniel. Floating has been a challenge for you. In the class level below you got the hang of floating on your own, but in this class you need to be able to flip from your tummy to your back, as well as be underwater and able to find the top and get on your back. This day you worked on getting that chin up and relaxing into the float after each move. Great job kiddo.
You and Caden go to the same school, but usually on different days. But there was a couple weeks where Caden was there on the same days as you. You two got to play together after school and you were so excited because you had been missing playing with him. You also have a buddy, Isiah, that you play with after school. You told Caden and Isiah that they were your best buds. You also told me you "shocked Caden with elecricily, and it was an accilent." So cute. Anyway, Caden's babysitter took this picture of you two.
We tried out a new park someone had told me about and it was awesome. Probably my favorite park. It's big and there was so much to do we didn't get to all of it. You and Dada had fun kicking the ball for a long while.
Speaking of your Dada, he is your "best bud". You must tell me that at least once a day. Everything is Dada. If he is home you want Dada and if he's not, you're asking about him. So it doesn't surprise me that when you made valentines at school and they asked you who you love, your answer was "my Daddy". Sure, the other kids said Mommy and Daddy, but not you. I know you love me, son, but it sort of stings a little. Hopefully, I'll be your favorite one day. P.S. I asked you if you drew a heart and you said no. I then asked what it was, and you didn't have an answer. We can call this one Red Swirl.
We started going to the library and picking out new books to read. We still read two books before nap and bedtime everyday, and mom and dad were needing some new material. You could read the same thing over and over...and we do, but then we hit a limit. So the library is great because just when we're tired of the same books everyday, we can go get new ones. The reason I mention this is, some of the books we've read lately have had super heros in them. Maybe it was Caden's party, or kids at school, but you've been more and more interested in super heros lately...even though you've never watched anything about them on tv or the internet. So, it doesn't surprise me that after hanging out with Nana and Papa (on Superbowl Sunday...thanks Nana and Papa!), you came home with a cape. Oh how you LOVE that cape. You wear it as much as we'll let you (it stains your clothes red, so we have to make sure you have dark clothes on) including to the store and while running other errands.
This month Resi turned three! She had a birthday party that included a bounce house and you loved it. You're a professional bounce house jumper now. Once the party was ending, we stayed a bit to help clean up and hang out a little longer. You and Resi were playing with the balloons so we attempted taking some photos. Getting two 3 year olds to look at the camera and smile at the same time is nearly impossible.
This is just you playing with the magnet tiles. I was in the other room doing something else, and when I went in to check on you, I saw your creation. I was just so impressed I had to take a photo...even though you wouldn't look at me.
We ended the month with Valentines Day. I love that you're now old enough to start to understand (or at least enjoy that it's a special day) holidays. Dada helped you make the coolest Valentine poster for me. We also read the other cards we got for each other and a cool one Grammy made for you. I think that you mostly loved the monster truck that was in your Valentines Day bag I put together for you. It was the sliver truck that disappeared a few months ago...and had been your favorite. Let's just say you haven't put it down since.
You crack me up with these photos. You're a good sport about going up to your room and getting in the chair to take them, but then you get the silly wiggles.
Let's see what else I can think of...
- Right now you love Justin Timberlake's new song, "Flithy". You call it the fast song and want to hear it over and over. So much that I'm worried you'll actually learn the lyrics, which probably aren't the best for you to be repeating elsewhere. We were playing on Instagram the other day and this happened...
- You LOVE to play the board game, Candy Land. We probably play at least play 5 rounds each day.
- We have a Google home mini and you love to say "Ok Google, play Cars Adventure". It'll go through this interactive story where you have to answer questions along the way. It's "car movie" related so you love it. I'm entertained that you know how to talk to Google. The other day, you asked Google to add "trucks" to the shopping list. Oh my smart little kid.
- Speaking of smart. I really think you are. Other parents are always impressed that you know your letters and numbers already. Even your class at school is only working on a few letters and maybe 1-5. We've been way past that for a while now. Right now we're working on sounds of letters and double digit numbers (fifty five instead of five five). You're getting pretty good.
- You also have an amazing memory. Maybe it's your age, or you have a great skill, but you remember a ton. You'll smoke Dada and I at the Peppa matching game.
- You're also learning to get dressed on your own. We're not close, but making improvements. The shirt is probably the hardest. I still love that you can go pee on your own though. Pants, underwear, flushing and all. Such a big boy!
I love you my sweet little Valentine.
Love,
Mama
