Dear Etrain,
Oh my. You've reached a whole new level of toddler. Let's start with "hit". You're really into this right now and it is so not cool. We've tried talking it out, redirecting, and even several timeouts. Nothing seems to be getting through that hitting is bad. I suppose it's just your age, but it's VERY challenging while your sweet baby boy is swinging for your face.
Nana bought you this cute sweater and you look adorable in it...when you're not trying to hit me.
Then there's also you not making up your mind. It's probably just you testing me, but it sure is challenging. I'll ask you if you want to do something and you say yes, then no, then yes, then no...and that continues until I just walk away and you make a decision or we do something else. Silly little boy.
Lastly, there's the emotions. You're all over the place and you can cover the whole spectrum in one minute. You'll start happy, get mad, maybe shed a tear, then be happy again...literally all in one minute. This photo shoot is a good example.
But even with all that, I still love you, son. A LOT. Forever. Don't ever question that. Just because I point out my not so favorite things you do, doesn't mean I don't love you with all my heart. I just don't love those things. And I know they will pass. You'll begin to figure out your emotions and how to express them better. Then you may drive me crazy with other bad things you'll do, and those too will pass. And in between those frustrating moments, we have zillions of wonderful happy ones.
This month started out pretty busy. We celebrated your birthday last month, but kind of kept celebrating the rest of the month. You got so many awesome toys that your playroom (our living room) is packed and we had a great time exploring all of them... including the "2" balloon from your party.
I have to share this video of you. You and I were watching the video of everyone singing you Happy Birthday at your party. After the video you started singing the song on your own, so I recorded it. You make me laugh.
This month we also celebrated Christmas. You can read more about that in my Christmas post, but one thing I didn't mention there was our trip to see Grandma and Grandpa North and the holiday decorations at Mission Inn. The weekend before Christmas we drove out to their house and visited with them for a while, which was really nice. Then when it got dark we headed out to Mission Inn to see the lights. Mission Inn is a big hotel in downtown Riverside. They go all out with the holiday lights and tons of people flock over there to see everything and get into the holiday spirit.
We had a lot of rain this past month. The rain is great because we are in a drought and it's nice to refill some of our water supply (although we have a long way to go), but it's a little bit of bummer because we can't go outside a ton to go play. When it was dry we took advantage of the park by our house, but on rainy days we had fun being silly indoors. Good thing we had all those toys!
This next month we're going to work on your swimming. We changed up your swimming lessons and now you are in a semi private class with and instructor and not me. So far you're not loving it, but Dada and I think it's very important you learn how to swim so I'm making you go anyway. Slowly, but surely you'll get better and hopefully learn to love it soon.
That's all for now. Love you mucho.
-Mama
