2 Years, 9 Months

Dear Etrain,

This was a busy month for all of us so I'll jump right into it. Dada's work had a family movie night at his office. You had a great time sitting in the firetruck they have inside, running around, eating the snacks, and (I thought) watching the movie, Sing. You seemed really into it, but it was getting late so we left before the movie ended. Dada brought the movie home for us to finish, so one night I put it on. Well, I got the DVD in the player and the start screen came up...then you started crying and begging me to turn it off. I put it on mute, but let the previews run, which you seemed into, but once the start screen came back, the tears started flowing again. I asked you why you didn't want to watch it, and after lots of coaxing I figured out you were scared of the "monkeys" (gorillas) in the movie. At Dada's office I thought you liked them because they drove cars (getaway cars) fast in the movie. I thought wrong. Either way, after you went to bed I put it on for Dada and I to finish watching, and that's when I noticed the PG rating. Poor boy. We don't really let you watch movies so I'm not used to checking movie ratings...and it didn't even occur to me that they'd show a movie that wasn't suitable for all ages. I'm sorry, son. Now I know.

You have a friend you made from swim class named Carson. Oh man, you LOVE playing with him. Before he started school full time, we would meet him at the park for play dates. Unfortunately you both have busy schedules in the mornings making play dates harder, but you talk about him all the time. "Carson is my buddy" you'll tell me. It's so cute. We'll have to set something up with him again soon.

Not much story here other than you just being a mischievous toddler. We need to work on your selfie skills. ;) I do love how excited you are to help me with laundry though!

It must have been some time last month Dada took you to Home Depot for one of their kids workshops and you came home with this hat. You didn't wear it for a while, until this day.

Something so cute about you in sunglasses.
You ask about going to the beach often. I think this trip was sort of spur of the moment because we didn't even put you in swim gear, but it doesn't really matter because you usually just want to dig. This time Dada got really into it and dug a VERY deep hole which you loved of course.

You'll see a theme this month for tents and forts. We've been making a bunch of them. This time you wanted to hide in bed, then you wanted me to hide with you. Oh, and we still have no idea what a goosey is. All I know is it says "Ooooo!"

I went on a short trip with Auntie Ansley one weekend, while you and Dada stayed home and had the best time. I took the shot below of you two in the car before I left. While I was gone Dada sent me the BEST photos and videos of you, which really helped me not miss you as bad. Seemed like you two had a blast!

You guys ate meals outside a bunch. You went to a pool party, but played with the cars there instead. You had some fun at the park and got a haircut. You went to the beach and came home too tired to smile for the camera. You also seemed to love the popsicles I bought you. After getting some new sand tractors and doughnuts for breakfast you two headed back to the beach. Lucky boy!

More fun with forts, cars on forts, and the park!

Not sure if this was your first time eating a fortune cookie or not, but it was so cute watching you eat them. As you'll get to know me when you're older, you'll learn I hate the sound of people eating. Totally drives me crazy. But somehow you are the only person I find cute while eating. I'll take it for now!

A few other fun things from this past month:
  - You can spell your name! Still working on your last name.
  - You told me "I need more pictures of monster trucks in my life." Just too funny. (Good thing Dada and I bought tickets to Monster Jam in February. I hope you love it!)
  - You've started adding "my mom" to the end of questions or statements and it's awesome. "Thank you, my mom." "Can I have more water please, my mom?" Oh, and I love that you're quite polite too. You still have a long way to go on the please and thank you's, but you do GREAT for your age, in my opinion.
  - You're talking waaaay more in general. Full sentences and stories. I love it. At school they have share day where you can bring something in to share and talk about in front of the class. The first toy you took was your "fancy old car" (old fashioned police car). I didn't see you present it, but your teachers said you stood up in front of everyone and spoke about it.
  - Related to the above, one day before nap time you told me you were thirsty and proposed this: "Let's go downstairs and drink, then stories, songs and rest my bones. Ok, my mom?" Holy moly. You had a whole plan and presented it in a wonderful way. Are you really only 2.5? The other day you also wanted to play with your cars in you bed right after I had gotten you out from nap. I told you that we don't play in bed, and the bed was for sleeping. Without missing a beat you said to me "what about your bed?" (In the mornings when you and Dada come wake me up, you usually bring cars in, Dada makes a "smooth road" with the sheets, then you play cars.) I just love your complex thinking. I don't know how advanced 2.5 year olds are supposed to be, but you sure do seem like a smarty pants to me.
  - We started playing on the playground equipment in front of your school after I get you from class. You love to play with Gage (who you call Cage), Cayden, and (sort of) two girls Everly and Haven. On days when we are first out there you are calling out to them "do you want to play with me?". You are finally really starting to like playing with other kids. Any kids. Even if we go to a park with kids you don't know, you'll still walk up to them and ask them to play. I love it! Our housekeeper, Olga, had to pick up her (10 year old?) son early from school, so she brought him over to our house. He was a really sweet boy and it was adorable watching you two play together.

You are just the coolest and sweetest little boy. I love you!

Love, Mama
