Dear Etrain,
This past month started with Father's Day. I got you and Dada some "copy, paste" shirts. You two looked pretty cute in them. We went out to lunch with Nana and Papa at Wood Ranch and it was very yummy. After your nap we spent some time in the pool...well, the spa (less expensive to heat). Now that the weather has warmed up, spa time has become pretty regular. You LOVE to splash around, jump back and forth to us, get your face wet, blow bubbles, and climb over our legs aka the bridge. We still need to work on floating and swimming though. We'll get there.
The next weekend you and Dada went to get haircuts then we were back in the pool.
In a quest to do something different, we tried out a new park that afternoon. This one had a big reservoir that we could walk around. We found a bridge you loved to run back and forth on, then we chased some swans. We made sure to bring the bug catcher too.
July 4th was on a Tuesday this year. Dada had to work a half day on Monday, but he got off early and we headed up to Huntington Beach. We visited with Uncle Viet, then headed to the beach. After playing there for a bit we went to Auntie Allison's house and you played with Resi. I tried to get some photos of you two, but capturing two toddlers in a photo and not having it blurry is nearly impossible.
For the 4th our neighborhood has its own community parade. It's pretty cool. Some realtors who live in our community put it together. They had us all meet for some coffee and doughnuts...then the firetruck came. You loved it and had to sit in it at least 5 times. Later the fire truck led the parade through our community. Lots of the kids decorated their bikes and scooters. We put flags on your stroller. So, our festive crew walked around the neighborhood, then you requested the park, so we detoured there.
That afternoon we hung out at our neighbor's house. We splashed in their pool, had some drinks and burgers, then we put you to bed before fireworks. You're still a little too small for fireworks. I think the boom might scare you. Next year we'll probably give it a try.

You and that fake smile. |
Dada bought a pool cover to help heat our pool, so that weekend we tested it out. I also pulled out the inter tube which you seemed to love.
You are like a full blown person now. You parrot everything we say, and it can be so cute when you say certain phrases or things a 2 year old wouldn't normally say. It seems like anything we teach you sticks...which is so exciting. You learned somewhere along the way that the purple signs all over Laguna Niguel talk about the recycled sewer water, which we told you they say "Don't drink water." So now EVERYWHERE we see those signs you point them out...all of them. Then your dad told you what a bus stop is...so you point all of them out all. It's sometimes a little annoying, but then again it's really cute to hear your little voice yapping away. "Bus stop, bop bop." (Not sure what the bop bop is, but we're going with it.)
Speaking of talking, you talk a ton. You love to pretend play with your cars. You love to tell us stories about what you see. When we read books at bed time, you "read" them to me. We've read them so many times you've memorized them, but I still love to hear you tell me the story. Just today, you hid behind your chair before nap. You said "you think I could take a book to hide?" When I told you yes, you picked up the Little Blue Truck book and took it behind the chair...then started to recite the story to yourself. So cute.
You like to sing too. Not kid songs (we don't sing many of those to you anyway), but modern songs. We listen to music a lot at home and if they come up on the radio in the car, you'll holler to me "Mom! We know this song" or "I love this song." You try to sing along too. Usually the words are too fast for you, but you sing the words you know. Dada still sings to you before bed too, so if those songs come on the radio, you make sure to tell me. Sometimes I don't know what dad sings to you, so when you start to holler when Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, or some other rock band comes on, it's pretty cool to find out all you know.
I just love the little person you are becoming. You have such a gentle soul. You're just so sweet, you give me kisses all the time. You seem a little sensitive, but you also stand up for yourself with us or kids you're playing with. You're great at sharing...as good as a 2 year old can be. You're getting pretty good with your manners - please, thank you, bless you, excuse me, etc. You still love to dance. We were watching one of my dance shows together and you turned around and told me you wanted me to take you to a dance show. Way to my heart, kid. You love to hide and be silly. You sometimes ask me to hold your hand while we drive in the car. You love to have me get in the tent with you and tip it backwards while we're in it. You love to swing on your own like a "big boy" at the park. You're a great date when we go out to eat. Most of the time you're a great helper when we go grocery shopping. Actually, I love going most places with you (except of course when there's tantrums). I love showing you new things and new experiences. I often struggle with wanting you to grow up so we can take you more places and show you more new things, but then again I want you to stay my little boy forever.
Oh, and I can't forget...you can jump now! You've been hopping with one foot at a time and calling it jumping, even on trampolines, for a while now. But this past month you finally figured out how to use both feet at once. And you can catch a ball pretty well now too (one of those big balls that your arms don't fit around).
Love,
Mama
