Dear Etrain,
I was watching some old videos the other night and your dad was making fun of me because of my comments in the video of your first word (sort of). I promise you I heard you say "mama" first. The problem is, I have no proof. But let's go back a little more...
In September of last year (making you 8-9 months old), you were really into babbling and it was super cute. I loved just listening to you make noises and chatter away. I suppose if "baba" was a word, it would have been your first word.
You were so close to saying actual words, your dad and I had pretty much made your first word a competition. When you were with him he worked on getting you to say "dada". When you were with me, I of course tried to get you to say "mama". I had the unfair advantage because you were with me more often. And that's probably why you said mama first. Really, you did...a couple times. Each time I'd get so excited and run for my phone to record it for your dad. But then you wouldn't do it again.
Soon after that, you and I were at Nana and Papa's house and you said "baby" ...and I got it on video. It was the cutest thing. Nana was so excited because it was the first word she heard you say. I, as I mentioned before, wasn't really sure it counted. I mean, you had said mama first, but I didn't have it on video for proof and you hadn't said it again. So is the word you repeat a bunch (on different days) your first word, or is it just the one that comes out of your mouth first? I know, I know. It's silly, hence why your dad was making fun of me the other night. But I don't care...your first word was mama. ;)
I had to take another video (lower quality, and smaller file size for texting) to send to your dad. Oh my, are you adorable. Your "baby" in this one had a little southern drawl and it's amazing.
I sure have loved watching you grow up. I can't believe this was just over a year ago. Now you're a talking machine. In fact, you've woken up from your nap and I need to go get you...I can hear you talking away in your room. I better get going, but I have to say - I love you my sweet baby boy.
