Halloween 2020

Dear Etrain,

This was actually a really fun Halloween. Due to the pandemic, we weren't sure what Halloween would look like this year, but one thing was for sure...you kids wanted to celebrate. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we got your costume early and are were wearing it all the time.

They had what they call Red Ribbon Week at school. Each day you got to dress up in something different - red shirt, favorite sport team, pajamas, hero, and of course your Halloween costume. Aren't you and Eva the cutest?! We walked with her from her house that morning to school and we stopped at this house with Halloween decorations for a photo op. Then once at school they had a little parade. I love this kind of stuff. I'll be sad when you're too old for this.

We also decorated our house fairly early too. You and I went to a couple stores and picked out your favorite decorations. This big blow up is 12 feet tall. I wasn't so sure when we were at the store, but now it's one of my favorites....that and the fun "flame" looking lights I found for our outdoor sconces.

Since we knew you kids wanted to trick-or-treat us parents came up with a plan...that turned into a whole party. Dada had fliers printed that we gave out to the whole street telling them we'd be trick-or-treating. They could put the flier up if it was ok for us to come by, and turn off the lights if they didn't want to participate. Pretty much like every year, but with the pandemic we had several folks thank us later because it let everyone know that we still wanted to celebrate. We had neighbors say they were grateful for the fliers because they had just planned on staying home...even though they wanted to come out. Hooray for Dad.

Our street decided to take it up a notch and sort of do what we did for the 4th, and made it a party. All the dads smoked meat and each family helped contribute the sides. Everyone brought down pumpkins to carve. You kids played in the street until it was dark. We barely had got all of you together for a quick photo, then you were off.

Making the same face as your pumpkin.

You had a blast trick-or-treating with your neighborhood buddies and at the end of the night we went to the Blakes for your first candy exchange. All the boys sat around sorting and trading for their favorites.

It turned out to be a really fun night and I'm excited for next year. I'm also excited to put up the decorations again. The house feels a little bare without them...but then again, Christmas is coming!

I love you, my precious Batman.
Mama
